This rough legged hawk photo is a major crop job but I still like it. This hawk is hunting just before sundown. Rough legged hawks can be seen in many parts of Minnesota during the winter. They tend to favor open spaces near large blocks of wooded areas. The areas offer the rough legged good hunting opportunities. Rough legged hawks will use the wind to hover over a field while hunting. They also like to perch at the very top of trees on branches that don’t appear to be able to support them.
